Stoplight Paragraphs

Mrs. Prince at Spend a day in Second Grade has some great ideas, printables, and lessons for writing paragraphs using the Stoplight Method.  I used her idea and created a simple stoplight anchor chart to use for writing next year!  I also like her idea of copying sample paragraphs on colored sentence strips to post near the chart.  Click on the photo to download the template I used to create my stoplight!

  1. Hi Jessica!
Our school uses Step Up To Writing and the method is extremely similar. It uses a stoplight strategy where GREEN means GO with your topic sentence, then YELLOWs are details, reasons, or facts about the topic, and then RED is stop and tell more info about the yellows. It ends with GREEN again so show that you "go" back to the topic sentence to help conclude. I really like the method!

  3. I love this idea! I've used the hamburger for years, but I like the color coded strips that Mrs. Prince suggested using and I L.O.V.E. your poster. I may use it as a model to make my own. I think I just added another project to my summer list. Thanks for sharing!!
