New Behavior Chart Theme - Tribal Patterns

I can't get enough of these beautiful "tribal" patterns!  Check out my newest behavior chart!  I think I'll be switching to this one for next year.  :)

I've also updated my STAR Behavior Pack for the 2015-16 school year!  The student recording calendars coordinate nicely with the wording of the behavior chart.  Although, the STAR Behavior Pack is editable if you use a chart with different wording.  :)

My Favorite Attention Grabbers {Free Poster}

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByV1hWeTSYEcekVWTG93b1ZVbUk/edit?usp=sharing
I love using fun sayings and jingles with my students to get their attention.  It keeps me from sounding "naggy" and the kids love it!  Best of all, it works like a charm!  It seems to work even better when having a variety to choose from  (keeps them interested).  I've found a ton, but have compiled my favorites into a poster to display in my classroom next year.  Grab it - if you'd like!

Homework Club Printable

I am joining in with many other teachers in trying out the Homework Club this year!  I bought my pizza pan for ONE DOLLAR   at Dollar Tree.  So if you haven't made yours yet, be sure to check there first.  It was exactly what I was looking for!  The original idea for this club is from Lessons With Laughter.

If you'd like the printables I created for my pan, click on an image below to download them for free!

DIY Glass Tile Magnets

Today's project was making numbered magnets to use with my Behavior Chart!

Here is a quick tutorial on how I made custom magnets for my classroom:

You will need:

1 inch clear glass tiles (Buy online!)
Magnetic Buttons w/foam adhesive (Buy at Walmart or online!)
Spray Acrylic Sealer
Mod Podge
small brush
scissors
circle designs (1 inch)

Here are the ones I used:

To make the designs, I used various digital papers I'd purchased to create the background of each circle.  You can easily make a set to match your own classroom by using a word processing program (Pages, Word, PPT) to create 1 inch circles and to "fill" them with the design of your choosing.

1.  Print off the numbers on card stock.

2.  Lightly spray with acrylic sealer.  Allow to dry for at least 15 minutes and then add one more light coat.  (This will prevent the ink from smudging when you apply the Mod Podge. Thank you, Kayla!)

3. Once the sealer is completely dry, cut out the circles.

4.  Put a THIN, even layer of Mod Podge on a glass tile and press the paper circle onto it. Do this for each one and allow to dry.

5.  On the back of each magnet, add another thin layer of Mod Podge to ensure the paper won't be going anywhere.  Allow to dry. (This doesn't take long!)

6.  Place an adhesive magnet on the back of each.  (I have tested this! The magnets I suggested are plenty strong enough to hold the tiles AND the adhesive is all you need for attaching them to the back.  No glue necessary!)

I hope this helps!  Let me know if you have any questions.  Note - Do not laminate paper circles before attaching them with Mod Podge.  Unless you want them to turn out like this:

I think not!  :)

Chevron Behavior Chart

My behavior chart has seen better days!  The construction paper I used has started to fade and the students' clips have done a number on the edges.  I've decided to go with magnets {Click HERE for an awesome tutorial!} instead of clips for next year and am hoping that will help it last A LOT longer!  Here is the new chart I made -
I still really like the idea of using the sticker gemstones for each time a student makes it to the top of the chart, so I created a Outstanding Behavior Hall of Fame poster and stars.  The students will earn a star once they make it to pink and will place it under the Hall of Fame poster.  They will be able to add a gemstone to their stars each time they get on pink!  Click on any of the images to check this out in my TpT store.

Caught Being Good!

Teri from A Cupcake for the Teacher inspired me to transform a Nesquick box into something useful!  She decorated her Nesquick box to use as a holder for Box Tops.  What a great idea!  Click HERE to see her creation.  I am using mine to hold Caught Being Good Tickets.  I buy a roll of tickets (at Walmart) and pass them out to kids when I catch them doing a good deed.  Then, at the end of each nine-weeks, I draw one of their tickets from the box.  The winner receives a personalized t-shirt!  I have our school logo printed on the front, but the kids get to choose the color and "name" for the back of the shirt.

Here's the label if you'd like a copy!
I just used scrapbook paper, cardstock, the label, and Mod Podge to put it all together - Easy!

The tickets looks something like this!

S.T.A.R. Behavior Calendar & Liebster Award

A few of my earlier posts have been about my S.T.A.R. behavior system.  I also incorporate this with my students' "take home" folders.  (I just call them their "STAR folders".)  I've created a Behavior Calendar that the kids color at the end of each day to record the color they landed on the Clip Chart.  On the calendar, I include all of the school-wide events (i.e. PT Conferences, breaks, etc.).  I attach calendars, for the entire year, into their STAR folders and tear them out after each month.  Visit my TpT store to download this product, which is included in my S.T.A.R. Behavior packet!

On a different note, I'm excited to say that Colleen from Totally Terrific in Texas has presented me with the Liebster Award!  Thanks a BUNCH, Colleen!  She has the best ideas and freebies, so if you haven't gotten a chance to check out her blog yet, be sure to stop by when you have a chance!

Classroom Rules in Motion!

I had no intention of changing my rules for next year until I came across Stephanie's fantastic idea on 3rd Grade Thoughts!  I love how she has her rules worded, and even better yet, how she has her students recite them along with hand gestures!  What a great way to reinforce your expectations and the importance of cooperation in the classroom!  Check out her blog to see how she has her students put these classroom rules into motion!  I adapted mine a bit and created posters to fit my decorating scheme.  You can download them for FREE at my TpT shop below!

In a previous post, I shared my Why the Red? document to send home if a student lands on "red" when using a Clip Chart System.  Since my rules have changed, I updated this paper, as well.  I print a handful of these off on red paper and keep them in my students' personal files once they've come back signed.  Luckily, I don't have to use them very often!  Click the image to download my STAR Behavior packet on TpT!

I send a Behavior Plan home on the first day of school, outlining our classroom rules, Clip Chart System, expectations, and consequences.  The students and parents both have to sign the bottom before returning it to me.
 Here's what it looks like:

I know each classroom is different, so an editable Word version is available at my TpT shop!
